BBCAM202 - How To Change Wi-Fi Details

Occasionally, it may be necessary to adjust the Wi-Fi details stored in the camera — usually because you've changed your broadband router.

There are three possible options for setting the camera up with a new router:

1. Change Your New Router's Wi-Fi Name & Password To Match Your Old One

The best solution is to change your new router's Wi-Fi name (SSID) and password to match your old router's name and password.

If you do this, all your Wi-Fi devices should automatically connect to your new router without having to re-configure them all individually.

Use your router's documentation for more information on how to change its Wi-Fi settings.

2. Use Your Old Router To Connect To The Camera

If you still have it, temporarily power up your old router — it doesn't need to be connected to your phone line or the internet.

Once the router is powered up, plug the bird box camera in.

On your phone, switch mobile data off and make sure your phone is connected to your old router's Wi-Fi network. When you connect, your phone may warn you there is no internet connection — ensure you tap any options necessary to stay connected.

At this point, your phone and the camera should both be connected to your old router, and therefore able to communicate with each other.

Open the Tapo app and go to the camera's settings, then scroll to the bottom and tap 'Remove Camera', then confirm the removal.

After that, the camera will be removed from the app and will perform a factory reset. Once it has reset, you can add it back to the app and configure the new Wi-Fi details as new.

3. Factory Reset The Camera Using The Reset Button

This method requires physical access to the camera, and therefore must not be done if the camera is mounted in an active bird box. If the bird box is occupied, use method 1 or 2 above instead.
