Are The Connections And Cables Waterproof?
Only use the power supply and cables supplied with your camera or bought from us — others may lack the same safety and protection features. All our connectors are plated and weather-resistant, but they're not fully waterproof, so keep connections facing downward, off the ground, and away from standing water, and consider self-amalgamating rubber tape or a little silicone grease rather than electrical tape, which traps moisture in.
General Information
- Only the power supply and power cables supplied with your camera or purchased from us can be used. Other power supplies may not have the same safety features or specifications and can damage your device.
- Our different cameras use different power supply specifications. Do not mix up power supplies between models.
- When using the 12v battery cable, you must use our one as it features reverse polarity protection and over current protection. Using others that do not have these may damage the cable but can also be a major fire risk.
- The mains power plugs are not weatherproof and must be kept inside.
Weatherproofing
All the metal on our connectors is plated and therefore weather resistant, however, you should note the following to further avoid excess corrosion:
- Where possible, connections should be facing downward so that rainwater drains outwards, and does not pool inside the connection.
- Connections should not be laid on the ground where they may end up sitting in water for long periods, such as in a puddle or damp grass.
- You should not attempt to tape up connections with electrical tape — this usually causes moisture and water to get trapped in, instead of keeping it out.
- If you do wish to cover the connections, you can do so using self-amalgamating rubber tape instead.
- You can also use a small amount of silicone grease on the connections to help avoid corrosion.
