4G Camera Offline Troubleshooting

CamHi 4G Camera Offline

The camera being offline is almost always due to 1 of 2 issues;

  1. A Power supply issue, such as:
  • A low battery (When used with a 12v battery).
  • Loose connection.
  • Damaged power cable wire.

  • A 4G connection issue, such as:
  • Sim card not registered yet.
  • No data/credit or the data/credit has run out
  • Low or no phone signal in that area

If you're setting up the camera for the first time:

Make sure that you have activated the SIM card:
If using the provided SIM, it has already been fitted inside the camera. You need to go to the Giffgafff website here: https://www.giffgaff.com/activate and use the activation code. You will find your activation code on a little card that was included in the box with your camera. You can also use the giffgaff app to register and manage your SIM.

Activation is usually done within a few mins, but it can take up to 24 hours for the SIM providers to activate the card. We recommend you leave the camera plugged in and restart it every few hours until the card is activated.

Add the camera to the CamHi Pro app:
Add the camera to the app using the using the cameras UID number. You will find this number on the paperwork included with the camera. Scanning the QR code is the quickest and best way to add it to the app. The default password is 'admin', this will already be filled in so there's no need to change it.

Once the camera is connected and added in the app, it can take a few mins for the connection to stabilise.

If Your Camera Was Previously Setup And Working

  • Don't delete the camera from the App.
  • Don't remove the app from your phone.

Start by powering down the camera, waiting 5 seconds, then power it back up. Now wait 10 minutes for the camera to boot back up and connect to the network. We also recommend re-starting your phone.

Check that there is sufficient data/credit available on your SIM:
Login to your sim providers website or app and check there is data available for use on the sim card. If the SIM card hasn't been used in a few months then it will likely have been deactivated by the SIM provider. Contact your SIM provider if unsure. We may also be able to send you a SIM card free of charge.

Check the power supply to the camera:

  • The supply is plugged in and switched on.
  • The connections of all cables are pushed in firmly.
  • Check the power cables and any extensions are not damaged (chewed on by rodents, cut on sharp edges, trapped in doors etc).

If you are powering the camera from a 12V battery, try powering the camera from the mains power supply instead. This rules out any issues with the battery or 12v power cable.

If The Camera Connection Sometimes Works But Is Intermittent

This is usually due to a low 4G signal.
You can try the following to improve signal:

  • Mount the camera as high up as possible.
  • Ensure all antennas are attached securely and pointing upwards.
  • Try to keep the camera and antennas away from metal.

If you have one of our static 4G Cameras with removable antennas then you can connect one of our external antennas for better signal.

You can also try using a different sim provider that may have better coverage in your area.
